The recent bilateral talks between China and Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam on December 20th by Chinese State Councilor Dai Binguo with Prime Minister Hun Sean, Prime Minister Thongsin Thammavong and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, have demonstrated the new momentum of China-CLV traditional friendship and cooperation particularly in the field of infrastructure development, agriculture, trade and investment. China reaffirms its peaceful approach to regional security issue especially on the South China Sea with Vietnam and safety of Mekong Navigation with Laos.
The future of the Greater Mekong Subregion will rely much on Chinese assistance since China is emerging to be a world economic superpower. In addition, China will contribute more to regional connectivity within the framework of ASEAN Connectivity Plus. The future of Subregional Cooperation in the GMS is great while political and strategic trust can be improved, nurtured, and maintained.
