Cambodia is hosting an international landmines conference this week in Phnom Penh. The conference gathers about one thousand delegates from more than one hundred countries, including some from as far as Africa. The objective of the conference is to call for the world leaders to stop producing and using anti-personnel landmines.
As a Cambodian who had experienced the civil war and also learn about the danger of landmines, I wish to join the international community to fight against landmines. We need to move to a “landmines-free world”. Yes we can do it!
Cambodia, as a chair of ASEAN, is going to propose to ASEAN leaders to establish a regional demining center based in Cambodia in order to share experiences and knowledge about demining activities. Cambodia is proud to be a regional leader in this respect.
